Any comments regarding todays news? > Agere to sell or (more likely) shutdown optics components group. OT: (a bit) Why can't Lucent get mega returns on technology they developed in the first place? I mean these guys invented the transistor for goodness sake! There is a replica of it in the lobby at Allentown. They also did some excellent microwave tube work, going back to WWII. That stuff helped us win WWII in Europe. After some consideration, my theory is they have their heads stuck in the past. Today, there just is nothing else for someone in technology (whether engineer or manager) to do around Allentown. It's effectively a one employer town. So the best either stay away or leave and go to Boston or San Jose, where the market for their talent is orders of magnitude better. IMO, Agere persisting in Allentown and trying to stay in the semiconductor game these days is utterly foolish. Move or die. JMHO -Own
