In general terms, I would contend that the only thing tech stocks have been good for lately is shorting, and that's what I've been doing since the bubble. I've done rather well at it, particularly since early 2000. I miss stocks like RMBS which I shorted at 412, what a joke, there were analysts calling for 600.

My longs are in industries like health care and consumer perishables like food, and they've done quite well in comparison to nearly any tech stock you can name over the last couple of years.

MSFT has special properties, not the least of which is a cadre of true believers which make it particularly attractive for trading on the short side, every time it gets knocked down a bit they lap some more up like good little doggies so that the shorts can have another go.

The whole "tech stock" infatuation is a mental prison for people who still think it's 1999. Check the calendar, it's not. The stock game is about making money, not being in love with your computer.
