This is an interview with a guy who shares my opinion about the state of the entire telecom industry. He is even more pessimistic about 3G than me. I think he is more right than wrong.

Looking ahead, McInerney predicts cellular technology will prove to be dead end for high-speed data. Instead, alternative wireless technologies such as 802.11 could end up displacing the Baby Bells as the local Internet connection to the home, he contends.

Individuals will use such connections to link a variety of visual-based consumer devices - PDAs, digital cameras, PlayStations -- that take advantage of the falling prices and huge increases in processor power, he asserts.
