Lorne, I think you have a very good grasp on the value of gold and paper currency. Couldn't have said it better myself:
<<some banker or some politiction somewhere in the world is trying to convince me and millions of people like me that paper is worth more than gold because they say so>>
<<One tree can make a lot of one hundred dollar bills, with little effort.>>
Gold has had value for 4000 years of recorded history, the US dollar for less than 200 years. As the price of gold determines the price of gold mining shares, I try to understand where it is going, to help with investment decisions.
I am no expert on world politics but believe the Euro will probably go ahead. I think it will fail in a few years. European countries are quite different and to get all of them to agree to one thing will be hard. What is good for one region (country) is not necessarily good for another. Then there are cultural and language differences, etc. I would be surprised if the Euro is still around in 2009.
Thank you for complementing me on my posts, however, this thread works because of ALL the people who post things. Mike, Alex, Bobby, etc all post things from different papers and areas of the world and this is the Power of the Internet - people not information.
