You have to know I wouldn't be belaboring the point with you if I didn't think you were dead wrong on all accounts. Ah is probably the word volume leader here on SI in trying to clarify his language and terms to absolutely anyone who would hang in there with him. I've learned volumes from him and certainly not by always agreeing with him. Do you think he should dumb it down so that he hits the lowest common denominator? I knew exactly what he meant when he made that original post and I'm not that smart but I do pay attention.

What you really find offensive is his confrontational manner. You like to be a nice guy, you value humility. I had the same handicap for years.

I've been around his posting for enough years I've actually seen other people and their communication skills evolve just from going back and forth with him. I've seen my own evolve. To me that is the greatest part about communication, about teaching, don't come down to my level, bring me up to yours. A lot of people shy away from confrontation, they don't want to be around someone who they think is condescending. Oh please don't remind me that I don't know yet what I don't know. Whatever you do, don't tell me how I know so little about a particular subject even if I insist on making it glaringly obvious (the Federal Reserve). How do you make progress if no one will tell you where your thinking is wrong? One could say, criticism can be given in a nice way....but I'll tell you I always remember the hard lessons over the easy ones.

When I was in Art College we had what are called crits. Its where everyone hangs their work up on the wall and the whole class criticizes. Sometimes these things could be brutal, you'd wind up close to tears when they'd rip apart your hard work. After a while you came to really depend on that level of honesty. But then once in a while you'd go to a crit where everyone loved your work and had nothing but good stuff to say. When someone came out of one of these love fests they'd say the crit was as useless as showing it to your mother.
