Also, keep in mind that the real cost of accessing the net at, say, 56K is really in the same ballpark, if you are any more than a casual user:

$20/month - reasonable-quality ISP
$15/month - second phone line (your mileage may vary)
---------
$35/month

Gee, let me think about this one - would I pay $5/mo extra for 100 times the speed? DUH!

And, compared to ISDN, it is a huge bargain.

Pac Bell is planning on rolling out an ADSL-based Internet service in the bay area. Lower bandwidth, higher cost. 384K for $70-$100/month. 1.5Mbit downstream for $150/mo. So far, xDSL is no threat.

Now, let me think about THIS one - would I pay 2 to 4 times more for less bandwidth? DOUBLE-DUH!
