URL: sfgate.com Sales of Sony's PlayStation 2 are meeting targets and continue to outstrip other video game consoles on the market, the company said Wednesday. Worldwide, Sony has shipped 33.27 million of its PlayStation 2 video game consoles. Microsoft has shipped 3.9 million of its Xbox console, and Nintendo shipped 4.8 million of its GameCube. In the United States, Sony has sold more than 11 million units; Microsoft and Nintendo have not released sales figures for the U.S. market. Sony will begin selling an online adapter Aug. 27, enabling users to compete against other players on the Internet.
