Speaking of Jet aircraft, I once had a business back in the 70's where we were clearing land on the edge of Streetsville Ont., not far from Malton Airport. We pushed a pile of brush and small trees into a pile and proceeded to burn it off. Before long the fire Dept. showed up and said they got a complaint and had to put it out. One of the firemen said the Chief wanted to talk to me. I went up to see him and he told me he had no problem with me burning the brush but as soon as they get a complaint, it has to be put out. He the went on to tell me that it was all pretty silly since the amount of pollution we created was negligible. He said that what we were doing was nothing compared to the amount of pollution caused by Airliner's dumping excess fuel before landing. I don't remember what amount he said they dump, but I vaguely remember hearing that they carry 10% over the required amount needed to make the trip.
Could be wrong. Don't know if that still applies today. If it does, considering the number of flights a day times - - -.
Wonder if there is any stats on breathing disorders among people living near airports???? Wonder if airlines lobby against other forms of air pollution just to get their names off the books??
