Hi carranza2; Re: "Or you can tell them that we're going in anyway with the kind of overwhelming power seen in Afghanistan and the Gulf War, and suggest to them that they'd be crazy to support a loser or not support the clear-cut winner. A variant of "grab them by the b---s and their hearts and minds will follow"."

The phrase is from the Vietnam war. It didn't work then, and it won't work now.

As long as world sympathies are with Iraq the US will not go in. If we did, not only would we get zero support from our allies, our enemies would actively support the resistance.

This is what happened in Vietnam.

But this situation is not comparable to Vietnam, in terms of our being sucked into it, because unlike the Vietnam conflict, our generals and diplomats are saying that an Iraq attack is not a good idea. At the time, this was the conventional wisdom, and I'm sure that I would not have foreseen the problems. We went into South Vietnam at the invitation of South Vietnam, how could it lead to big problems?

Jesus weeps!

You guys read the news.

Kissinger just chimed in with the news that an attack on Iraq is a bad idea.

Why the hell are you even bothering to continue the argument with me?

We're not going into Iraq.
