Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who would be in charge of planning and directing any military strike, said he welcomes the debate.

"I think it's important for people to say what they think on these things and that's the wonderful thing about our country," he told reporters last week. "We have a public debate and dialogue and discussion on important issues."

Al, this is the way they're working it to make it seem like we're still a democracy. Its disgusting. In her interview with the BBC, Rice's explanation for why the US needs to invade Iraq is because Saddam is evil......clearly, she knows God is on her side. She thought her explanation was more than adequate. Its bizarre........they really think they are believable. A poll was done after the interview and 58% of the Britons are against military intervention and they want T. Blair to back down. They also think Bush is a jerk.

My German friends told me this weekend that there are demonstrations against the US almost daily in Germany and the rest of Europe. They feel the US/Bush has made no effort to explain is stance. The German Chancellor has vowed not to militarily intervened against Iraq.

With that as a background, tonite CNBC news had a Rep. and a Briton and an Arab American on the program. The Rep., ever the diplomat, gave his explanation for why the Europeans were not with us on this matter.........he said the Europeans are children, and once again we are the adults. He then went on to point out that we saved Europe twice and they should be beholden to us. I thought the Briton would lose it big time. If this is sounding all too familiar, you're right......it was like watching D.Ray on the tube. Strangely, they seem to be all cut from the same Puritan cloth. I had to turn to "Friends" to get the chill out of the room. <g>
