Capital Poll: Green light on Iraq?

Hawks in the Bush administration believe Saddam Hussein must be pushed from power soon to curb alleged weapons programs. But does America have the right to launch an invasion on its own?

The Bush administration finds itself increasingly alone in its view that Iraq's present leadership must be toppled. While administration officials continually blast Iraqi president Saddam Hussein -- rhetorically -- as an enemy of freedom and a threat to humanity, U.S. allies generally have been beating the drum for peace.
Even Britain, America's closest friend, seems to have no stomach for an invasion of Iraq. Public protests have led the country's legislators to reconsider blind trust in U.S. policy. Skeptics want documentary proof that Iraq is building -- and planning to use -- weapons of mass destruction.

Similar criticism is playing out across Europe and elsewhere.
