from what I hear on the street (and I do own a construction company) builders are being cautious about not getting "Stuck" with inventory in the event that the economy craps out. they are only starting what they have already sold, rather than building on spec. Commercial building had slowed for the first 5 months of the year (worst I have see since 1991 then picked up at a good pace. However the remainder of the year looks questionable at this point. In the next three weeks I should have a pretty good idea where this is going.
