Perhaps the choice of the word "fight" was ill- advised. I just mean that the issues that arose for intellectual debate and political competition would then be those separating former allies, when they no longer had reason to fudge their differences and concentrate on their common goals. Of course, if those issues had no political dimension, or were considered undebatable, than there would be no reason for engagement, so belief in something good need not automatically entail contention.......
