Yeah, right :)

Your pretty pink fantasy world is amusing, but based only loosely on any planet Humans have ever lived on.

You said we should have 'nuked Hanoi' (and you believe there would have been no negative repercussions for us from that act).

You are an unmitigated idiot.

If Hanoi had been nuked by us, you can bet your bottom dollar that Saigon would have been wasted in reply. Any American forces in the area... well they would have suffered the same fate as that of Soviet and Chinese advisors in the Hanoi region.

You are right... there would likely have been no nuclear attack on the American mainland, only an attack on the Chinese or Soviet mainlands would have drawn that. But the capital of our putative 'ally' in the south would have been toasted in tit-for-tat reply.

And because WE, the Americans, would have been seen by the rest of the World as the first to push the button... and in perceived childish anger over a failure to win a 'war to renew Colonialism', we would have lost ever much more than was even on the table in Vietnam.

Our losses in the 'minds and hearts' category around the world would have been devastating, and perhaps irreversible.
