What is the meaning of that? Really, I'm wondering.
It doesn't seem like a joke, it seems like a plain scam-attempt or like derangement, but who knows. Maybe someone thought it would be funny to bid $1,000,000 for the painting?
I'm sure hundreds of primitive painting of Tiger Woods have been painted, and I don't believe his autograph could add $999,900. to the value of the painting.
As a genuinely charming specimen of 'naive' art with a goofy, campy popculch element, it's undoubtedly worth something, and probably more to a collector of camp/kitch, from a fence in an outdoor art fair hung alongside paintings of clowns on velvet, than the $100 I gave it.
Maybe the painter is just confused and delusional about the value of his work and had somebody collude with him to bid $1,000,000 figuring It Never Hurts To Dream. People do buy lottery tickets. Maybe listing it for $1,000,000 was his way of buying a lottery ticket.
I see it's a private auction -- "bidders' id protected." LOL. And that it's the first item that seller has put up. But the funniest thing of all is that if you decide to buy that painting for $1,000,000, Tim, the shipping costs will be entirely your responsibility! I hope that doesn't influence your decision about whether to purchase the item.
