I don't agree with the "cornered" argument. Saddam has used chemical weapons before without being cornered. He also invaded Kuwait without being
cornered.

Using the reasoning that he gassed his own people is a strained attempt at feeding our fear and sense of morality. If Kuwait had not been an oil rich country, on the northern border of another oil rich country, do you think we would be talking about this? When Saddam attacked Iran he fought to a stalemate for eight years and presumably used poison gas...and it is said that we provided weapons to him as he did. Since the Kuwait war the world has witnessed events of extreme brutality in places like Rwanda, for example, without nary a sign of concern for morality.

There is no reason to send our sons and daughters to fight and maybe die in a far away desert on the mere speculation that an enemy will some day attempt to harm us. On this basis, there are several other wars to be fought right now.

As for his neighbors...Israel can take care of itself. And Saudi Arabia...well, there is only one reason why we should be concerned about their welfare...and it's got nothing to do with morality.
