The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index edged down to 87.9 in
early August,
compared with a final 88.1 in July, holding at its lowest level since
November. The drop was a tad lower than consensus forecasts for a reading of
88.3.

Separately, housing starts fell for a second straight month in July but remained
at historically robust levels, down 2.7 percent to a seasonally adjusted 1.649
million units annual rate, the Commerce Department said.
That followed a revised 2.7 percent drop in starts in June to a 1.695 million
annual pace.

But Baldur, Bush and O'Neill, the Treasure Secretary, tell everyone how rosy and wonderful the economic
picture remains! Surely, they must be thinking about how much money their friends and big campaign contributors made. Remeber W's friend, Enron's, Kenneth Lay and the head of Charles Schwab?. Today, I heard that a Wall Street Analyst received 32 million or maybe it was 33 million in a severance
package because he made a boo-boo with World Com. I wonder if he is a friend of W's.....

Did you notice that BUSH sat next to his friend who is the head of CHARLES SCHWAB at Bush's economic forum
this past week. Gosh! What a life SCHWAB's guy must have. I read he made two or three HUNDRED million
last year. At least, the head of Charles SCHWAB doesn't have too worry about welfare stamps. Does he
have a big tummy? Did anyone notice?

Do you think Bush's friends have off-shore tax accounts!!! Could W and his old man, George the First, have offshore tax accounts? You gotta wonder about O'Neill, too, since he was reluctant to investigate offshore tax evaders until 9/11. Speaking of 9/11, the government let Osama bin Laden's relatives leave the country
afterwards. It seems odd, doesn't it? John Ashcroft is so interested in confining suspicious
people to jail without charging them with a crime. Yet, Osama's relatives got out of the country quickly,
as I recall..

Let's not forget our Vice President Dick Cheney. He belongs to the millionaire club, doesn't he?
Is that why he spends so much time hunting and fishing even though he draws a government check.
How many other US VP's have been unable or unwilling to say where
they were when they weren't in the office working?

What a tough life W, his rich friends and the rich members of his corporate cabinet have. And poor
Laura!!! She would go nuts if she saw more than two flowers in in an expensive vase at
her fancy state dinners. What a strain, Laura!!!! And, I read, you had to make do with beef that costs
$50.00 a pound at your last fancy dinner. While W, Laura and their friends wallow in splendor, I heard
on ABC local news last night that the state of Oregon has the highest number of hungry people
in the country. These people don't know where they will find their next meal. Washington State came in
second.

Of course, people with the last name of BUSH don't have too worry about such mundane topics, do they?
