mm - one thing we learned about this wweek and it is that it was the absence of shorts that drove the prive up ratehr than anything else. This was a constant comment on the media on Thu/friday.

Money came flooding otu of bonds and inot equities and my guess is that the shorts didn't want to fight the flow.

Goes to prove my point that shorting ought to be made a criminal offence.

May sound extreme but the shorts have done far more damage to ordianry Americans than all hte frauds at WCOM Enron and all the rest combined. In fact by a factor of maybe ten times.

Meantime the shorting has produced a negative and depsondent self generating feeling of utter depsondency in the major growth engines of the economy.

I remember your prediction of 10% unemployed and I disagreed after checking the statisitcs. I no longer disagree.

Shame that 1X got delayed for what appears to be so long. As I said earlier in the week having it arrive across the US now is like arriving in Normandie for a beach holiday on 6th June 1944.

Seems to me that the likes of INTC, MSFT, IBM, CSCO etc are about to see even more lowered expectations for 2H 02 and worse still now for 03. There isn't a sniff that business is picking up anywhere in fact it seems to be getting universally worse. I guess this is what an incipient slump looks like.

Best,

L
