I agree with you for the most part but I have recently been concerned about W being backed into a corner.

The fact that recent reports are inferring that 41 may be trying to get a message to 43 through Scowcroft is an eye-opener to me. I am concerned 43 wants to outdo 41 and lacks the ability to differentiate between his speech and his actions.
It's almost as if a large contingent (NY Times, some Republicans, Powell, Military heavy weights, Russia, Germany, 1/2 of Blair's cabinet) is trying to ameliorate the off-the-cuff foreign policy 41 is pressing with his sound bites.

Maybe Barbara Bush can come up with an exit strategy W. can live with.
