Says who? There is certainly not consensus on that
I've been listening to the Sunday news shows all day -- liberals, conservatives, democrats, republicans -- and I've heard at MOST one person articulate the notion that we may not have to fight Iraq. I'm not sure what alternatives you think there are, but if you are thinking we can (1) do nothing or (2) negotiate, you are either extremely naive, or ..., well, I'm going to assume you are just naive. You can't negotiate with those people.
If you didn't get ONE OTHER THING out of the Gulf War, you should understand that Saddam and the rest of the Middle East understand one thing: EXTREME VIOLENCE. Nothing short of it fazes them.
EXTREME VIOLENCE will be necessary. A compelling argument can be made that it should be sooner rather than later, since by waiting, all we're doing is giving him time to get prepared.
I understand that, as a liberal, you aren't able to agree with these concepts. And I don't find it to be a character flaw; it is, instead, the reason why liberals have a history of making bad presidents. |
