But most suicides don't really want to die

I definitely agree. It is an ultimate call for help, and often their choice of method is not very certain, because subconsciously they really aren't ready to die.

Some people jump out of a 3rd floor window. The dedicated ones take the elevator to the 110th floor.

I don't have much respect for suicides who kill themselves in a very messy way, thoughtless to the end of those who have to clean up or of the additional trauma they subject loved ones to.

Edit: I had a brother-in-law who blew his head off with a shotgun, and whose body as discovered by his 14-year old son. The son (my nephew) was never the same again and died himself before he was 21. That was a long time ago, but I have no sympathy, only anger, toward the father.
