A nicely balanced rejoinder, Neo...

I would never trust the NEA to place the Japanese-American "internment" in a proper and accurate light, especially starting with the fact that what they will be talking about was not an internment, but a relocation program. There was also a relatively small internment of J/As who had renounced American citizenship to support the homeland in its declaration of war against the U.S. The NEA's choice of words would not be an auspicious start to a factual and unbiased presentation on this complex historical event.

I think there is also very legitimate reason to fear that in their zeal to forestall ethnic discrimination they will soft peddle the link between Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism.

From what we know of egregious factual errors that have been found in high school history textbooks, combined with anecdotal evidence about how ill-informed many underpaid and overworked teachers are about their nation's history, we have every reason to be concerned about how this described program will be implemented.

On the other side, the guy from the Conservative "think-tank" seems to me to be equally careless in his representations and, as you say, overblown.
