Now, for whatever reason, Ken's response will determine whether the Enron employees get the $300M or not. If he DID have sex with Lewinsky, they get the money; if he DIDN'T, they get nothing.

Is it okay for Ken Lay to lie about having had sex with Monica?

Before you respond that "this doesn't represent the case", please think about it. Because it DOES represent exactly what happened. Clinton was involved in a civil action, and in an effort to avoid being held liable to the plaintiff, he lied.

You make the terms of this hypothetical case similar to the Clinton one but then you add on a twist.......there is a financial liability in question that will effect the well being of ENE's employees. IMO that makes the hypothetical Lay lie re M. Lewinsky much more serious. Clinton lied to protect his marriage; Ken Lay lied to keep from paying out $300 million in pension funds.

While lying is never acceptable, not only do I see the Lay lie as the more serious one but the one that should get the harsher penalty. And that concept of the punishment fitting the crime is very well understood in our judicial system; that two crimes can be very different; that the seriousness of two lies can be different......and therefore, the punishments can be very different.

Given that understanding of our justice system, I believe Clinton's lie is a lesser one than that of Nixon's. Had Nixon not resigned, he would have been impeached and voted out of office by the Senate.........and he new that. Congress would not have been able to get a similar vote against Clinton because the lie was not as serious.........and he knew that.
