E, I have found that it is actually better right now to pay for the tickets than to use miles. They are restricting the award seats but are having trouble selling the regular seats. We have become accustomed in Chicago to paying only 198 RT to fly to the West Coast (The last 15 tickets I have bought for family for those routes have been at that price or below). Southwest has also started to compete more for long haul travel to the West Coast with a few nonstop or one stop flights, which has brought prices down for the other carriers.
