I gather that you can't refute my chronology. Thanks for confirming that my understanding of the facts is correct.

What we seem to differ on is whether it was a good idea at the time to support the mujahideen against the Soviets.

My guess is that you find it more regrettable that the US did not just stand by and let Afghanistan become another Soviet puppet state. Do a little more research and if you are intellectually honest I trust you will come to the conclusion that Karmal, the Soviet puppet ruler, was a piece of something lower than whale shit.

If you are willing to make the effort, research the fight between the mujahideen and the Taliban for control of Afghanistan. That ought to make you wish you never made the "morph" argument. But I'll let it drop unless you insist on making me rub your nose in it.

My own regret was that the left-leaning Congress so impaired Reagan's ability to assist the Afghanis that our assistance was limited to covert aid to the most promising bastards who were already on the ground.
