I would like to weigh in on the middle east situation. I have no solution, but I think there are a few things that are true. First and foremost, a sizeable portion of the arab muslim world are religious extremists. Like the christians of the inquistion and of the crusades they are using religion to justify evil. This does not mean that all arab muslims think this way, but it is obvious that many and probably a majority do. Their hatred of our country is deep and visceral. I am not sure that it is based solely on the Palestinan issue. I think it is more based on the religious extremists hatred of the jews, a feeling of inferiority and hatred of western ways rather than any desire for a palestinian state, which I don't believe ever existed. (If some members are more knowledgeable about this, I would like to hear your opinion).

I believe that the dictators of the mid east have stoked the fires of unrest over the palestinian issue so that they can avoid sharing revenues with their subject and they have fostered hatred and cunningly and knowingly used the religion to accomplish this.

I don't think this will end without a major war between the West and the arab islamic states. I truly believe that this is a situation where peace will only be found on the other side of war. In many ways I see similarities between the false pride of the arabs and the Japanese Samuri culture. It was so ingrained that we had kamikaze pilots and a belief that a man, the emperor, was god. The belief that the warrior went to heaven was part of the Samuri culture.

Today arab muslim extremists believe that by dying in a jihad they will be rewarded in heaven. These beliefs are strong enough that many are willing to kill themselves for the cause.

I have only a layman's knowledge of the subject, but this is what I think will happen.
