What I refuted was your assertion that the mujahideen "morphed" into the Taliban. No matter how bad the mujahideen were, they were not the Taliban. Some former mujahideen switched sides, which, in case you haven't noticed, is standard behavior in Afghanistan.

Some former mujahideed became refugees. Some of them moved here. I have had Afghani clients who were formerly mujahideen and had to leave when the Taliban took over. Some of them have already gone back. (I've also had clients from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, India . . . . this is a very cosmopolitan metropolis.)

Afghanistan is a very difficult place. I remain glad, and proud, that we helped the Afghani people conquer the Soviet army. The fact that they were able to fight the Soviets to a standstill should enlighten you as to just how hard these people fight, and how much they dislike outsiders.

"Blowback" is inevitable. Actions have consequences, not all of which are intended or desireable.
