| I am sure you are right, there are pros and cons either way, but I suggest that you benefited from your time of connectedness, even if you felt no persistent need. Obviously, it is a matter of personal interests and aptitudes, of course. I would be dissatisfied with prints and what is available on the web in respect of appreciating painting, for example, since scale, subtleties of color often difficult to register, and texture make a big difference in paintings. Sculptures and other kinds of installations, like Rauschenberg's "combines", are, of course, hopeless to appreciate without seeing them in person. Thus, you have to live near a major city with important museums, or travel to one a lot. However, if your interest is cursory, the need doesn't exist...... |
