So, if someone had criticized FDR for allying with Stalin, would that have been treasonous? If someone criticized Johnson for announcing that he had no intention of invading North Vietnam, would that have been treasonous? If someone compared Bill Clinton to Hitler while we were in the middle of military operations on behalf of NATO against Milosevic, would that be treasonous? Even during time of war, a certain amount of dissent is normal for a democracy, and we should be leery of characterizing political debate as treasonous, even if it is of an offensive character. Treason involves, in effect, taking active measures to side with the enemy against the country, not questioning the wisdom of a particular policy........
