Thanks, that works but it's 3 clicks from the desk top, IE> Tools> Windows Update same as Start> Windows Update> Maximize. I'm after the 2 click luxury you enjoy, Start> Windows Update, but if this my worst PC problem I consider myself lucky. One other minor annoyance I have is not being able to change the icon of the shortcut to the Control Panel that I keep in my Quick Launch tray. I can't replace the Windows XP default icon, a white square with a check mark inside, with the old default icon, a folder with a hammer on it. Even after right clicking the icon and selecting properties then "Change Icon" and selecting the old icon that I want the new icon remains. I can change it to any other icon just not the one I want. I think the problem is both icons have the same name. Changing the name of the icon I want would probably solve my problem but I don't know how to do it. Again, this a minor annoyance but it's still really bugs me.
