| Thanks, I will keep an eye out for it....when I finally connect with my local video rental store.....I think I will manage to catch some of the Kurosawa retrospective at the AFI this weekend. When I was in college, a guy who ran the film program for a few years was a big enthusiast, so I have seen the bulk of his films on screen, in addition to showings on tv or video. This retrospective focuses on his partnership with Toshira Mufune, which suits me...I saw a version of "As You Like It", done by Lawrence Olivier, last month on a college channel. (I am a big fan of "Henry V" nd "Richard III", less so of his "Hamlet). It was very charming, and, if you can find it on video, I recommend it highly....I saw a documentary on one of the Sundance channels ( I now have digital cable) called "Who Is Bernard Tapie?", about a charming, handsome rogue who made it big in business and politics only to suffer a downfall over a bribery scandal. It is very interesting, kind of kooky, and has some of the best footage of Paris I have ever seen.....I saw "Sullivan's Travels", by Preston Sturges, again about a month ago, and it was much better than I remembered. It was overhyped by the cineaste crowd a few years ago, which accounted for my original disappointment, but it is really quite warm and humane, and Veronica Lake is very much worth seeing...... |
