I'm not one to defend Krugman. I like his views but he does not strike me as the most likeable person one could meet.

But if this is the charge, he will make mincemeat of it.

1. They make a big deal of the fact that since Bush was not governor at the time, how could this possibly be conceived as some sort of political favor. Oh, give me a break. In 1989 he was the oldest son of the just elected President of these United States. Hmm, no politics there. That's so lame it might not ever even need to be refuted.

2. As to the dollars, looks like a lot were changing hands. Easy to not know who's telling whom. But it's been clear for a very long time, no need to deny it, that Bush was invited into partnerships because he was his father's son.

3. One of the clearest indications that this is nothing but a put up job is that throwaway line about since Krugman was an Enron consultant who is he to say something about corporate sleaze. What a hoot.

That one needs to go back under the rock from which it squirmed out. Just love those preposition ending sentences.
