Deutsche Telekom CEO: VoiceStream decision year-end (6:59 AM ET) Helmut Sihler, the interim Chief Executive at Deutsche Telekom (DT: news, chart, profile), on Wednesday said he expected the German carrier to reach a decision before the end of the year on what to do with its U.S. wireless business VoiceStream. He declined to comment on reports from Tuesday that VoiceStream is in deal talks with Cingular. "We are in the midst of a stratgic review. It could be more divestments; it could mean some other things which I won't reveal now," he said in a televised interview after the carrier released June quarter results. "Everybody is talking to everybody... We will carefully consider all options and come to decision before the end of the year." It could well be that DT retains a stake, he said. "VoiceStream has had a very good development, especially in the last month. We are gaining customers more than our market share would indicate. The profitability is increasing... We have a number of options." Cingular is owned jointly by SBC Communications (SBC: news, chart, profile) and BellSouth (BLS: news, chart, profile). DT shares (de:DE:555750: news, chart, profile) were up p 1.4 percent at 12.02 euros in Frankfurt.
