It may sound humourous.... but it seems to be real: A 'dash of autism' may be essential in the Valley.... Higher reproductive success ("in previous generations they would have been Monks...") among 'geeks' produces rising rates of Autism, a cluster of Asperger's syndrome in the valley. 'Geek gene' may cause autism: An autism study by the UC Davis Mind Institute has found that one in every 150 children in Silicon Valley have some form of autism -- a much higher rate than is found elsewhere in the United States. Some scientists believe high-tech workers may be carrying genes that contribute to the condition -- and that 'computer geek' men are more likely to meet partners who also carry autistic genes. This isn't the first time this connection has been made.
