It may sound humourous.... but it seems to be real:

A 'dash of autism' may be essential in the Valley....

Higher reproductive success ("in previous generations they would have been Monks...") among 'geeks' produces rising rates of Autism, a cluster of Asperger's syndrome in the valley.

'Geek gene' may cause autism: An autism study by the UC Davis Mind Institute has found that one in every 150 children in Silicon Valley have some form of autism -- a much higher rate than is found elsewhere in the United States. Some scientists believe high-tech workers may be carrying genes that contribute to the condition -- and that 'computer geek' men are more likely to meet partners who also carry autistic genes. This isn't the first time this connection has been made. In fact, Bill Gates and Albert Einstein have both been rumored to have suffered from Asperger Syndrome, a milder cousin of autism.
