Patrick,

From the new Hammer presentation, it appears that Clawhammer has a capability to somehow divide the single 16bit HT link into 2 8bit links to enable dual CPU operation. I don't think this will turn out to be a desirable solution, and most OEMs will wait for Opteron to have full 2 HT links (plus additional L2 cache).

I think it would be best for AMD to not spread the resources too thin. AMD should just can the 2-way capability of Clawhammer, and just invest it in improved single CPU Clawhammers, and > 1 CPU Opterons.

The lack of dual processor Clawhammer motherboards is the best indicator that there is little or no interest in this solution.

On the other hand, in a few months, we should start hearing about Opteron motherboards. I hope there will be some reasonably affordable single CPU Opteron motherboards (in $200 range) available.

Joe
