Tom: Sprint is weak. Full stop. The long distance business they have is dying. They are therefore very conservative now.

Lowest risk is their way to go.

1X is a no brainer.

BREW requires brains (but no money).

1x EV-DO requires brains (and small amounts of money).

We are stuck with the worst possible suppliers of CDMA 2000 in the world (except possibly in Thailand)

[Except in fairness, Verizon has launched BREW and has had successful trials of Ev-DO (so there is hope) re Verizon - perhaps Sprint might notice !]

But the fun is that with all the absurdities of Verizon and Sprint and their difficulties at launch, they have such a huge advantage with CDMA 2000 1x and its upgade paths (such as 1x EV) that it will be hard for them to fail even as they trip over their own feet.

Sadly, weak as they are, they are the horses Qualcomm has in the US race.

The only good part is the other horses have the heavy handicap of TDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS.

Bets?

Best.
