Hi Dwight, do you think it likely that Capital Gains tax changes might generate some money that people will spend on buying Novell stock?

It seems that Novell is finally beginning to shake some of it's poor marketing and PR habits of the past ... I've included a Novell Press Release that shows they are starting to make some decent progress (finally!) ... and believe that the company might be viewed much more positively in the next few weeks. Also can you help with an understanding of the significance of the increase in options (LEAPs) activity ... I think it means something important about the pro's opinions of Novell, but I'm not sure how to interpret the news.

Thanks

PR & Marketing will probably look a lot better when they hire someone that can do the job well ... and hopefully someone with a known reputation in the business ... I've been hearing that interviews were in progress more than a month ago, so we should hear an announcement soon ... maybe even at this conference.

Here's the Press Release:

Dear Attendee:

Please join us for an informative day on Monday July 21st, please note that
refreshments will be served to attendees during the midday break. And
remember, Eric Schmidt delivers the opening keynote address on Wednesday
July 23 at 9:00 AM. We look forward to meeting you during Internet World 97.

Thank You,

Novell Public Relations

productivity; understand the issues facing companies as they incorporate
intranets into their organizations; and learn about Java-based applications
on high-performance Novell network platforms.

IntranetWare: Leveraging Your Existing Infrastructure to Create a
Full-Service Intranet _ Coleman Barney, senior director, Product Marketing,
Internet Access Division
Some believe that today's PCs and desktop applications - even network
operating systems - won't be necessary in the near future when nearly all
the information, applications and messaging needs of the world will be
delivered by intranet/Internet technologies. This session is designed to
provide audiences with guidelines and ideas about how to build intranets
that leverage existing technologies.

11:20 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Novell Directory Services (NDS): Directory Services for the Internet _
Michael L. Simpson, director, Marketing, Network Services Division
Many businesses will not embrace the Internet and intranets until they have
access to the same security and scalability provided by their proprietary
networks. Directory services, such as Novell Directory Services (NDS),
provide the security necessary for electronic commerce and enable users to
access information and administer private networks over the vast public
network through a single log-in.

12:00-1:30 p.m.
Meet Novell _ Reception
Please join us for refreshments and the opportunity to discuss what is
important to your business. All of the Novell workshop presenters will be
available to answer your questions.

1:30-2:30 p.m.
GroupWise: Collaborative Computing for the Internet _ Eldon Greenwood,
director, Product Strategy, Novell Applications Division
The race is on to determine whether Web-based groupware or Internet
applications will prevail as the premier collaborative solution for
corporate intranets. The determining factor will be the balance between
sophisticated functionality and Internet standards, rather than the
sacrifice of one for the other. Novell GroupWise allows corporate users to
get the most out of their intranets by leveraging applications that go
beyond simple e-mail.

2:30-3:00 p.m.
ManageWise: Management Services for the Internet _ Kenneth Jensen,
Management Products Division
The jobs of IS managers in overseeing networks will become increasingly
demanding as networks evolve to incorporate Internet and intranet
functionality. Novell is creating intranet management solutions to minimize
network downtime, ease the management and administration of users through
Novell Directory Services, as well as facilitate remote and Web-based
management.

3:00-4:00 p.m.
BorderManager: Extending Your Network to the Internet _ Michelle Arden, vice
president, Border Services Group
Concerns about data security have led companies to explore new technologies
that securely extend their networks to the Internet. Through a single point
of administration, Novell BorderManager services tighten security through
enhanced access control; accelerate browser speed by up to 10 times; and
provide a secure, economical, encrypted, private connection over the
Internet. allows you to extend your private network to the public Internet
with confidence.

Starting to look a little better to me ... hope the trend continues and we don't have another 'Rock the Net' type of fade out.
