Wintek of Taiwan Surge by Daily Limit After TCL Profit Jumps

Taipei, Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Wintek Corp. shares surged by their daily trading limit of 6.9 percent after one of the company's biggest customers said its profit jumped 15 times in the first-half.

TCL Communication Equipment Co., China's biggest domestic maker of mobile phones by market share, said yesterday first-half profit surged to 113 million yuan ($14 million) and sales more than quadrupled as it took market share from foreign phone makers.

Taiwan-based Wintek makes and designs liquid crystal displays used in mobile phones for customers such as TCL, Motorola, Inc. and Sagem SA.

Shares of Wintek rose as much as NT$1.7, or 6.9 percent, to NT$26.20 as at 12:05 p.m. in Taipei.
