RAS features are overemphasized. I have seen many clusters that beat RAS boosted servers all to hell. Years of uptime, no unplanned stoppages, node MTTF in years and node MTTR at 5 to 10 minutes (mostly hard drive and PS failures). Worst case failure is losing primary ethernet switch and backup switch activation in milliseconds though at reduced compute speed (BW limited work loads).

Opteron clusters will eat into Itanium high end. You could probably count sold Itanium high end RAS servers on one hand.
