I'm curious what your take might be

It is an interesting guessing game. I think if we were inside at the CIA, we might still be confused, with sources coming back with different stories. The part of the book on the CIA I recently read dealt with the Kurds in Northern Iraq as the end of the book. Very confusing area.

IMO, Saddam did not have his "fingers" on 9/11 directly. He may have been informed just before during the "disputed" meeting. For sure he knew something was going to happen. After it happened, He announced that he was delighted.

I think it is obvious that Sadamm has been supporting Terrorists with money, training camps, etc, and that includes Al Queda. He has played it close to his chest, but it keeps leaking out. He is trying to avoid a "Smoking Gun" situation. He wants to help them engage in further actions without his fingerprints.
