I like Walter Williams, but he is wrong.There is no mechanism for secession in the Constitution, the Federalists thought they were creating a national government, sovereignty in the federal government is derived from the people, not the states, and many states were later admitted to the Union by the Congress. Also, absurdly, the South rebelled in defense of slavery, while complaining that the North treated them as slaves. Jefferson Davis made clear that the issue was slavery in his farewell address to the Senate........
