What's to shed light on? Do long-side analysts only recommend stocks that their clients don't have positions in? If an analyst puts out a strong buy on MSFT, is your tendency to think he's doing so under pressure from a client who's long a half million shares of it?

I mean, it'd be one thing if the stock spiked downward on his report and his clients immediately covered, but that was not what happened, was it?

And it's not as if Asensio is the first person to think of shorting REFR. Way I hear it, REFR is such a known entity that it's the punchline to many a private joke among short sellers. So a pre-existing short position in the hands of a person obviously inclined to value the opinion of short sellers, is not exactly a huge surprise.

So what's the problem?
