With the spread of sector mutual funds came short-term sector trading. This created inefficiencies for the funds, who thus created switching charges and those irritating little front-end loads. ETF's are perfect for sector-switching traders, but still efficient for long term holders. They are basically an evolutionary step beyond mutual funds-especially now that the myth of the "superior money manager" has been swept away...
