But any intervention in the middle of a raging civil war would have to be perceived as favoring one war lord over another.

Merely labeling something as 'humanitarian' in nature does not mean that it is a wise intervention... or likely to escape unscathed, or achieve it's stated goals.

Did you support Bush's 'humanitarian' Somalia intervention, but oppose the 'humanitarian' intervention into Yugoslavia (opposed by most Republicans in Congress at the time), but generally perceived as 'successful' now?
