Williams-Sonoma tops Q2 earns expectations (WSM) By Tomi Kilgore
Williams-Sonoma (WSM) reported fiscal second quarter earnings that exceeded expectations and raised full-year forecasts. Net earnings for the quarter ending July were $14.1 million, or 12 cents a share, up from earnings of $1.4 million, or a penny a share in the same period a year ago. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial/First Call had been expecting earnings of 8 cents a share, on average. Net revenue for the period rose 15.5 percent to $495.6 million, while comparable-store sales were flat. Looking ahead, the home products retailer is projecting earnings of 9 to 10 cents a share for its third quarter and of $1 to $1.02 a share for the year, versus analyst forecasts of 10 cents and 99 cents, respectively. The stock closed Wednesday up 79 cents at $26.65.
