qv You're right. But so is Mucho and MSDW. How so? IMO the decision makers at the GSM service providers(operators) have made their bed and are willing to sleep in it because: GPRS will match 1X in the users perception and as you point out this approach will provide said decision makers with cover for the next "x" years until they're promoted or switch jobs. This is a far LESS risky proposition for them than switching to 1X. In fact, in the Phila. area Cingular has just offered a program where your unused monthly minutes are rolled over to the next month ad finitum. And Verizons ads highlight 4000 anytime minutes (not Express). And PCS ads highlight picture taking - but only if you use your own digital camera. Well, that shoots the teen market. With this marketing ?? of 1X I do believe GPRS will cover the shortcomings of the GSM path to 3G long enough to put a lot of now unforeseen obstacles in the way of Q's domination of the world. Keep in mind the SELF INTEREST of all the players in this game. Only Q shareholders are upset at the lack of progress of CDMA on the world scene. Do any of the CDMA operator executives care if they crush T Mobile or AWE? Probably not.Just so long as they make their numbers. How about the handset makers? Not so long as they can manufacture for both GSM and CDMA equipment. So who is out there caring except us? Even the Korean manufacturers make GSM handsets.How about China?? They are IMO the wild card. They only make CDMA so world wide acceptance would be good for them. But I believe that GSM gear is manufactured in China as well but they only get a partial cut on this. But, if this was really the case why haven't they made a bigger move to CDMA? And also, they're license fees for export are double the Koreans fees. Why do you think that the Koreans stopped whinning?? queuecom
