Trees are a renewable resource

If that were really the case there would be no need to move into the old growth forests. There's been plenty of acres which should have grown back after being cut 50 or a hundred years ago. The truth is that renable slogan is just not accurate. For example there are some nice parks near Branerd Minnesota. This is an area that was logged more than a hundred years ago. There are some nice big trees in the parks but the real eye catcher is hundred year old stumps which are bigger across than 50 of the trees that grew up in the meantime.

The second complaint is the tarrifs that Bush put on lumber products. It's hard to see the need for further chewing through our forests when the markets are awash in canadian boards and russian plywood. It seems that what this plan lacks is a balance. If the cutting and growing were in balance then there would be plenty of trees left for those who want to hug them too.
