Hi CobaltBlue; Re: "But my favorite moment of all is not something I ever saw in a photo or on videotape. As soon as I understood what was happening, I picked up my kids from school, and we went, in this order, to fill up the tank with gas, take money out of the ATM, and buy food at Costco."
Funny that you would admit this, but you posted it more or less real time:
CobaltBlue, September 12, 2001 What's the deal on gas gouging? I filled up my tank about an hour after the bombing - was worried about supplies of gasoline. #reply-16342497
What the hell did you think would happen to gas supplies if everyone went out and tried to buy their share before the supplies ran out? I mean, Jesus weeps! You were the cause of the problem yourself!
My first reaction was to cancel any driving that I required, and to try and influence as many people as possible to avoid actions that would precipitate an (unnecessary) gasoline shortage:
Bilow, September 12, 2001, 10:04AM P.S. I'm suggesting that a patriotic thing to do right now is to avoid using gasoline or even filling your tank. There's rumors of shortages or high prices in the press; obviously this is something that we can all easily fix.
If you want for the rest of us to be convinced that you're a patriot, it would be best if you at least tried to imitate the actions of someone who cares more about the country than yourself. When 9/11 happened I immediately eliminated all excess driving, and refused to fill my car or even drive it except if absolutely necessary. I did this as a simple patriotic contribution, all that I could do at the time. While I was making my tiny sacrifice, you were out there making sure that you got yours, and that you got it at a good price.
