burn2learn, Re: "We have experts but they live in sheltered huts.....the world does not exist to them....a problem."

You may know people like this first hand, but I do not think that all of Intel's process experts are that secluded. Otherwise, how would Intel be ahead of the industry right now in .13u production? Or 90nm research? Intel has some very smart engineers. Have you browsed this before?

intel.com

How can Intel be one of only a hand-full of companies bringing such new and innovative breakthroughs to semiconductor manufacturing if they are indeed as complacent as you suggest? Do you really feel that there is a corporate problem, or is it maybe just a problem in your group?

I don't mean to be presumptuous. You obviously know the situation first hand, while I am a mere observer. Yet I have a tough time believing that Terahertz transistors, 300mm wafers, strained silicon, and other developments are all just smoke & mirrors, while the majority of process experts are oblivious to the world around them.

Maybe you can help to explain this disconnect?
