Kevin, your post acknowledging the probability of long/short position of the hedge funds attacking REFR generated some questions from the "little old ladies. "

I don't KNOW it, but it's a logical conclusion based on what I've done myself in the past, when attempting to short a hard-to-borrow, squeeze-prone stock, like REFR.

West Highland Capital took their long position in REFR in 1998 around the time Wexler issued his first strong sell recommendation. The stock was not hard to borrow but was thinly traded.

1) Was the long position bought to stop any upward momentum in the stock?

2) What is the order in which these hedge funds work. It appears to us to be the following"

a) Buy shares long to move stock up.
b) Start shorting at the top.
c) Walk shares down by lowering the offer with shares to short (these are "boxed" by the long position.
d) Hit the stock on down market days or news days
e) Hit the bid hard at the close to break the chart.

To explain why one would do that requires an understanding of how short-selling works, and I'll postpone an explanation of that until I see that you're actually interested in the truth about it as opposed to your favorite conspiracy theories about it.

About 300 investors are interested in all the details.
